Cala Ratjada (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈkalə rəˈdʒaðə]; Spanish: Cala Rajada) is a coastal town and tourist resort located on the northeastern tip of the island of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, Spain. It belongs to the municipality of Capdepera, in the comarca of Llevant, and lies approximately 79 kilometres east of the island's capital, Palma.
The town sits on the easternmost point of Mallorca, facing the island of Menorca across the Menorca Channel. Its coastline is characterised by rocky cliffs interspersed with small sandy coves, pine forests reaching the shore, and clear Mediterranean waters. Notable nearby beaches include Cala Agulla, Cala Mesquida, Cala Gat, and Son Moll.
Historically, Cala Ratjada developed as a small fishing village. Fishing remained the principal economic activity until the mid-20th century, when tourism began to transform the settlement. Today it is one of the main tourist destinations on the eastern coast of Mallorca, particularly popular among German and, to a lesser extent, British and Scandinavian visitors. The port still maintains a working fishing fleet, and fresh fish auctions are held at the harbour.
The Faro de Capdepera, a lighthouse built in 1861, stands on a promontory north of the town at an elevation of about 76 metres above sea level. It is one of the oldest lighthouses in the Balearic Islands and marks the closest point of Mallorca to Menorca, located around 40 kilometres away.
Another landmark is the Jardins de Cas Canonge (also known as Jardins de Sa Torre Cega), the former estate of the March family. The gardens contain one of the most important private collections of contemporary outdoor sculpture in Spain, including works by Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin, Eduardo Chillida, and Barbara Hepworth. The estate was originally acquired by the Mallorcan financier Joan March Ordinas in the early 20th century.
Above the nearby town of Capdepera stands the Castell de Capdepera, a 14th-century fortified enclosure built by order of King Jaume II of Mallorca, which overlooks the coastal area including Cala Ratjada.
The town has a Mediterranean climate (Köppen classification Csa), with hot, dry summers and mild, relatively wet winters. Average annual temperatures range around 17 °C, and the tourist season extends mainly from April to October.
Cala Ratjada is connected to the rest of the island by the Ma-15 road via Artà and Manacor. Regular bus services link it to Palma, Palma Airport, and other towns on the eastern coast. The town has no railway station; the nearest terminus of the Mallorcan rail network is in Manacor, about 30 kilometres to the west.
