Cala Millor is a coastal resort town located on the east coast of the island of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, Spain. It lies within the municipalities of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar and Son Servera, in the comarca of Llevant.
The name Cala Millor translates from Catalan as "better cove." The resort stretches along a sandy beach approximately 1,800 metres long and around 35 to 50 metres wide, bordered by a pedestrian promenade known as the Passeig Marítim.
Before the mid-20th century, the area was largely undeveloped and used mainly for agriculture and fishing. Tourism development began in the 1930s, with the first hotel, Hotel Eureka, opening in 1934. Large-scale construction expanded significantly during the 1960s and 1970s in line with the broader tourism boom on Mallorca, transforming Cala Millor into one of the principal resort destinations on the eastern coast of the island.
The local climate is Mediterranean, characterised by hot, dry summers and mild winters. Average summer temperatures range between 25 °C and 30 °C, while winter temperatures typically remain above 10 °C. The sea water temperature reaches approximately 26 °C in August.
Cala Millor is bordered to the north by the resort of Cala Bona, a former fishing harbour that has grown together with Cala Millor into a continuous urban area. To the south, the coastline continues toward Sa Coma and s'Illot. The town is located about 70 kilometres east of Palma, the capital of Mallorca, and is accessible via the Ma-4023 and Ma-4030 roads.
The local economy is heavily dependent on tourism. The resort contains numerous hotels, apartment complexes, restaurants, bars, and shops, and caters primarily to visitors from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavia, as well as domestic Spanish tourism. Outside the main town, the surrounding area retains agricultural uses, including the cultivation of almonds, olives, and carobs.
Nearby points of interest include the Punta de n'Amer nature reserve, a protected natural area of approximately 200 hectares situated between Cala Millor and Sa Coma, which contains the 17th-century fortress Castell de sa Punta de n'Amer, built in 1693 to defend the coast against pirate incursions. The archaeological site of S'Illot, a Talayotic settlement dating from the Bronze and Iron Ages, is also located in the vicinity.
Cala Millor hosts an annual half marathon, the Cala Millor Half Marathon, and has served as a training base for professional cycling teams during pre-season preparation, owing to the mild winter climate and the road network of eastern Mallorca.
